MEXICO

Covering almost two million square kilometers, and with a population of over 120 million, Mexico has diverse landscape of mountains, deserts and jungles and beaches, along with varied culture and heritage.

The Yucatán Peninsula, in southeastern Mexico, comprises a significant proportion of the ancient Maya Lowlands. There are many Maya archaeological sites throughout the peninsula. Indigenous Maya and Mestizos of partial Maya descent make up a sizable portion of the region's population, and Mayan languages are widely spoken there.

I travelled to the Yucatán Peninsula in May 2017, visiting Valladolid, Ek’ Balam, Chichén Itzá, Izamal, Hoctún, Muyil, Tulum and Akumal.
