ICELAND

Iceland (Icelandic: Ísland) is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, just beneath the Arctic Circle. With a population of around 330,000 and an area of 103,000 km², Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Located on top of one of the world’s most volcanically active areas, Iceland has an impressive mix of mountains, glaciers, fjords, lava fields and hot springs, along with fishing villages, farms and small hamlets dotted around the coast.

I visited Iceland four times in the early 2000s and totally fell in love with the country and its people. After a 12 year hiatus, I returned in 2017 and, despite the huge increase in tourist numbers, fell in love all over again. I knew it wouldn't be 12 years before I visited again, and in March 2018 I went back with my 11-year-old niece, who loved it as much as I did! Then, in 2019 I spent five days in the Highlands on my way to Greenland. The photographs here are from my 2017/18/19 visits.
